Sheena Hobbs – Overall Winner and winner of the Events category 2011
Sheena beat more than 160 entrants and 45 finalists to take the overall title, having been victorious in the Events category earlier in the evening.
Sheena won the events category for her work with the Whole Systems Demonstrator trial in Newham on behalf of the Department of Health. Overall judge Alex Silcox, Managing Director of John Brown Media chose Sheena above the other finalists as he felt “Sheena not only added demonstrable value to the client and indeed the project, she also showed a huge amount of initiative and drive and a single-minded approach to considering all avenues and channels open to them to ensure a successful campaign. Event collateral, a website, educational workshops, a presence at conferences, video production were all used to good effect. The results of the campaign speak for themselves, that those results were achieved speaks volumes for the dedication and effort shown by Sheena. This was clearly a case of going above and beyond the initial expectations of the brief.”
Karen Cinnamon – Advertising & Design Category Winner 2011
Karen wins the Award for her work with The Gate Worldwide where she designed the key website templates and digital brand guidelines for Friends Life. Karen was also Highly Commended in the Digital Excellence category.
Judge Matt Potter commented, “Karen’s sheer joy in her work shines through, not just in her award entry but in the quality of the work she does, and in the feedback she gets from clients.
In a competitive market for freelancers, she’s a great example of someone who pulls off difficult work for demanding clients… and makes it look easy.”
Jo Murphy - Editorial Category Winner 2011
Jo was not only the winner of the Editorial category but also Highly Commended Overall for the work that she did developing Porte Magazine from scratch with Stadium Creative.
According to Judge Matt Potter ”Launching an editorially driven website from scratch within a one-month period is exceptional. Having the vision to determine tone of voice, accessibility and an editorial strategy within this time-frame is award winning. Choosing to pursue a freelance editorial career should allow the person the space to be creative and entrepreneurial. Jo has shown the passion and desire to take a concept and develop it into fully functioning online magazine brand. A deserved winner, and I hope Porte Magazine continues to build on the momentum it has so quickly generated, allowing it to grow from strength to strength.”
Jeremy Hay Campbell – Marketing Category Winner 2011
Jeremy won the Marketing category for his work with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise delivering a strong marketing campaign.
Judge Simon Lewis chose Jeremy as the Marketing winner for “Successful negotiation with Governmental figures post-election in a time of austerity is a superb achievement, working within a budget a quarter of the one previously with the same expectations indicates resourcefulness. Jeremy’s project delivery within unrealistic time restraints & his use of digital/social media is not only contemporary but posed a paradox against traditional legacy. Full marketing life cycle, seemingly working independently.”
Rachel Lankester – PR & Communications Category Winner 2011
Rachel won the award for her work to raise the profile of the Close the Door campaign which works to get shops to close their doors and stop wasting energy.
This category was incredibly competitive with a unpresidented 16 finalists being chosen from over 40 entries. PR & Communications judge Drew Benive, MD of 33 Digital had a very hard time chosing the winner and the highly commended finalists.
Commenting on Rachel’s achievement, Judge Drew Benvie commented, “Rachel showed creativity, the results spoke for themselves with blanket coverage and the campaign clearly generated mass mainstream awareness for a worthy cause.”
Ian Warn – Digital Excellence Category Winner 2011
Ian Warn was named Digital Excellence category winner for 2011. Having been a finalist at these Awards previously it was great to see Ian win this year.
Ian wins his award for his work on for design agency 2br where he was brought in to produce an easily updated SEO friendly website to showcase the high quality of design photography, as well as conforming to applicable standards.
Judge Matt Potter from John Brown Media remarked that Ian was “More than just a problem-solver and creative freelancer, he immersed himself in the client’s organisation, goals and culture. That meant Ian could start not just fulfilling the brief, but exceeding it – and even challenging the client’s own practices, assumptions and expectations of what was possible in the digital space.”
